ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION AND REMEDIATION

Since the early 1980's, Geo-Con has been a major provider of soil and groundwater remediation services. Having performed successfully on over 30 Superfund sites and numerous RCRA facilities, we possess the knowledge and experience to manage full-scale hazardous waste remediation. Since multiple construction techniques such as earthmoving capabilities, geomembrane installation, slurry wall installation, in-situ soil treatment/stabilization and ancillary construction applications are necessary to complete most remediation projects, clients often look to Gen-Con for our demonstrated abilities to perform with minimal or no subcontracting. Our success in managing jobs from 15 thousand to more than 15 million dollars, and our project controls including cost, schedule, health and safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and public relations have distinguished Geo-Con as a trustworthy General Contractor and Subcontractor for both public and private environmental compliance and remediation.

With recent Brownfields legislation, today many of our clients are remediating sites for development purposes and not solely for regulatory reasons. Geo-Con has successfully transformed previously vacant contaminated properties into city parks, hotel developments and sport complexes.

In keeping with our commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, we have been able to use our expertise in slurry walls, soil mixing and bio-polymer trenching for new applications. Geo-Con is on the cutting edge of in-situ groundwater treatment by providing the most cost-effective means of constructing "funnel and gate" treatment systems as well as permeable reactive barrier (PRB) walls and groundwater collection and distribution trenches. These new construction techniques have already been recognized and installed at D.O.E., Superfund, NASA and other government sites. In addition, our containment/solidification technology using deep soil mixing has gained acceptance with the EPA, other regulatory authorities and concerned owners.

Safe, quality production is the cornerstone of our construction business. We have comprehensive Health and Safety and QA/QC programs, both of which require internal auditing of projects. Additionally, we are continually refining our construction processes to enhance worker safety and our quality program.

Job Applications:

Slurry Cutoff Walls
For environmental applications, slurry cutoff walls offer a cost-effective solution for remedial actions. These nonstructural barriers are constructed to intercept and impede the flow of fluids underground and are effective for underground pollution containment. Our more than 400 installations include the construction of impermeable soil-bentonite, cement-bentonite, and composite slurry walls.

Bio-Polymer Drains
The Bio-Polymer slurry drain technique offers a cost-effective method of collecting contaminated groundwater for treatment and disposal. This modified slurry trench technique provides permeable trench drains that can be constructed without dewatering, sheeting and shoring, or personnel working in the trench.

Deep Soil Mixing
Geo-Con's Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) technique is a highly effective contaminated soil treatment application that occurs without excavation or soil removal. DSM allows soil and wastes to be treated homogeneously in-place to depths of 120 feet. As it is an in-situ application, it provides an effective engineering control for controlling contaminant emissions.

Shallow Soil Mixing
A derivative of the DSM technique, Shallow Soil Mixing (SSM) was developed by Geo-Con to treat soils and sludges, in place up to 35-40 feet, using larger tooling for more cost-effective volume treatment for both solidification and containment. It is a state of the art, in-situ treatment technique, which uniformly mixes hazardous soils or sludges with treatment reagents.

Permeable Reactive Barriers
Geo-Con is a recognized leader in the forefront of one of the latest environmental technologies, permeable reactive barriers (PRBs). Applying the expertise obtained from Deep Soil Mixing (DSM)/Shallow Soil Mixing (SSM) slurry walls and Bio-Polymer trench installation, Geo-Con has successfully constructed more PRBs than anyone.

Site Remediation/Caps/Closures
Geo-Con provides a wide spectrum of field services for CERCLA, RCRA, ECRA or hazardous waste site cleanups and closures. Our staff is experienced and can ensure compliance with Federal and state required regulations and cleanup plans. We can provide a turnkey design/build program for major waste cleanup projects in a cost-effective manner.

Jet Grouting
A technique utilizing a special drill bit with horizontal high speed jets. This process excavates soils and produces jet mixed columns by pumping grout through the horizontal jets that mixes with the surrounding material as the drill bit is slowly rotated and withdrawn.
