ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION AND REMEDIATION

Jet Grouting
DuPont Superfund Site
Newport, Delaware

Geo-Con performed construction activities for DuPont at the Newport Superfund site in Newport, Delaware. The site encompasses approximately 120 acres and is bisected by the Christina River. The site consisted of a portion of the DuPont Holly Run plant, another active plant and the North and South Landfills, and the adjacent wetlands. A number of environmental remediation activities have taken place over several years to address environmental concerns.

Geo-Con's remediation project consisted of the installation of a jet grouted Impermix® panel wall with a specified permeability ( 1 x 10-7cm/sec. Impermix® is a proprietary grout mixture composed of attapulgite clay and slag cement that has ultra low permeabilities (approximately 1 x 10-9cm/sec). The wall is approximately 650 feet long, 20 feet deep, and was installed adjacent to an existing sheetpile wall along the Christina River. Work was performed in a tight linear area with a width of only 10 to 25 feet.
