Geo-Con was the general contractor for the site remediation activities at the Kane and Lombard Superfund site, a formerly unpermitted seven-acre landfill located in Baltimore, Maryland. The project involved the entire cleanup and safe closure of the NPL site and the work scope consisted of the following:
- construction of a 50,000 sf slurry wall;
- installation of a composite cap consisting of compacted clay and 320,000 sf of VLDPE liner;
- establishment of permanent site facilities (water and electric);
- cleanup of surface debris;
- clearing and grubbing;
- site grading;
- leachate extraction system;
- permanent soil erosion and surface water management structures; and
- post-closure maintenance.
All work was completed within the required time schedules and final billings were under the government's budget.
