GEOTECHNICAL CONSTRUCTION

Geo-Con's roots are in the geotechnical construction service area. Many of our technologies and specialty equipment developed from the geotechnical field have been applied to our environmental remediation and wetlands service areas.

Geo-Con is recognized as an industry leader in providing in-situ soil mixing and the construction of vertical barriers for excavation support/groundwater control. From an experience standpoint, Geo-Con performs more soil mixing work and constructs more vertical barriers than any other firm in the United States. From an equipment standpoint, we are the only contractor in the United States with four-auger soil mixing equipment and twin stem jet mixing equipment. We also own a large fleet of slurry mixing equipment and long-stick excavators. These equipment resources allow Geo-Con to respond quickly and cost effectively.

Our soil mixing technology has been successfully used to construct gravity retaining walls, which allow for accelerated construction schedules and eliminate the need for costly tiebacks or internal supports. This same technology has also been used to construct cost-effective deep foundations in lieu of pile foundations or stone columns, with equal or better technical performance characteristics.

With proven experience in a wide range of geotechnical construction technologies, Geo-Con is solving some of the toughest foundation challenges.

Job Applications:

Slurry Cutoff Walls
For geotechnical applications, slurry cutoff walls offer a cost-effective solution to groundwater control problems. These nonstructural barriers are constructed to intercept and impede the flow of fluids underground and can be effective for site dewatering, water containment and seepage barriers under dams. Our more than 400 installations include the construction of impermeable soil-bentonite, cement-bentonite, and composite slurry walls.

Deep Soil Mixing
Geo-Con's Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) technique is a highly effective, state of the art , in-situ soil improvement application that can be used to increase strength, reduce permeability, and improve other soil properties without excavation or soil removal. DSM has been applied for civil engineering projects as foundation systems and structural retaining walls similar to diaphragm walls or sheet piling.

Shallow Soil Mixing
A derivative of the DSM technique, SSM was developed by Geo-Con to provide cost effective foundation systems for geotechnical, civil applications. Columns can be arranged in-situ up to 35-40 feet, into gravity retaining walls or mat foundations.

Jet Grouting
A technique utilizing a special drill bit with horizontal high speed jets. This process excavates soils and produces jet mixed columns by pumping grout through the horizontal jets that mixes with the surrounding material as the drill bit is slowly rotated and withdrawn.
