Jackson Lake Dam Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation of the Jackson Lake Dam included a 110 ft deep cutoff wall and a system of 60 ft deep honeycomb cells as liquefaction protection and foundation for the dam. Excavated dimensions were as follows: trench area - 500,000 ft2; maximum depth - 110 ft. and width - 2.5 ft. Geo-Con served as the subcontractor to National Projects, Inc. (a Morrison Knudsen Co.) and performed nearly 100% of the project. Geo-Con constructed the cutoff wall and foundation portions of the project based on the superior technical merit of Deep Soil Mixing (DSM). The DSM material was a mixture of water, soil, cement and a small proportion of bentonite. The foundation materials were alluvium with a variety of sand, silt and clay. Soil-cement strengths were designed for 100 to 200 psi shear strength. The project was successfully and satisfactorily completed slightly ahead of the original schedule.
