Lima, OH: Shallow Soil Mixing (SSM)
The project essentially consisted of the solidification/stabilization of 20,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil. The project was located in a former storm water control pit containing high concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons and small amounts of free product. Soil mixing was accomplished using hydraulic blending units mounted on CAT 320 excavators.
The site was divided into pre-measured, numbered cells to ensure 100% treatment. The cells were approximately ten feet by ten feet and were up to fifteen feet in depth. Geo-Con employed two excavator mounted blending units, which mixed the in-place soil with cement grout produced in Geo-Con's custom-made batch plant. Soil-Cement samples collected exceeded 100 psi unconfined compressive strength, and also passed project specific TCLP criteria at 28 days of cure.
Due to its own Health and Safety culture Geo-Con easily adapted to the client's extremely stringent Health and Safety policies and procedures and the project was completed safely and successfully.
