Lowell, MA: Rosemont Earthen Levee and I-Wall Fortification Project
This project included the installation of over 250 soil-cement columns placed by the shallow soil mixing method. Columns were completed without incident or accident under the oversight of Geo-Con's Health and Safety staff. Work was completed for the General Contractor, who in turn were working for the Town of Lowell Massachusetts under The United States Army Corps of Engineers.
Work on this project was completed within a very restricted working space with a track mounted drill assembly. The drill assembly turned a six-foot auger to depths exceeding 20-feet. Each of the columns was enriched with Portland cent to strengthen and stabilize the levee face.
An extensive Quality Assurance protocol was undertaken by Geo-Con staff in association with GZA Geoenvironmental, Incorporated. GZA provided the final investigation and report to the township and the federal government. The completed stabilized matrix exceeded the shear strengths required by the USACE.
