WETLANDS CONSTRUCTION

Wetlands Restoration/Estuary Enhancement Projects
Dredging And Remediation Construction
New Jersey Sites

Geo-Con is currently conducting an estuary enhancement program for PSE&G at several locations in New Jersey. PSE&G plans to spend up to $107 million to create wetlands habitats for fish and other wildlife, protect uplands, and construct fish ladders. This wetlands restoration project is the largest of its kind in the nation. The project is being undertaken as an alternative to constructing cooling towers at PSE&G's Artificial Island Nuclear Power Complex.

The overall estuary enhancement project involves restoring tidal flows to wetlands that had been diked for farming, and subsequently destroyed wetlands areas. Geo-Con's work includes dredging tidal channels, constructing upland dikes, dredging spoil areas and reconstructing roadways.

The wetlands restoration program will benefit a variety of fish species and birds in the 20,500-acre area. PSE&G also plans to construct parking areas, trails, and observation towers so the public can have access to wetlands and forests being preserved.
