WETLANDS CONSTRUCTION
Commercial Township Salt Hay Farm Construction
Estuary Enhancement
Port Norris, New Jersey
The scope of work included the construction, restoration, and enhancement of 4,000 acres of salt hay farm. More than 500,000 cubic yards of spoils material was excavated to create more than 50,000 linear feet of new channels using both hydraulic dredging and mechanical excavation equipment working on timber mats. The spoils were utilized to create high marsh and endangered species habitat. On-site conditions were controlled through the maintenance and repair of perimeter dikes which protected the site from 6 foot tidal changes. Over 25,000 linear feet of internal berms were created using on-site material. Almost 18,000 linear feet of upland dike was created by importing more than 200,000 cubic yards of off-site borrow material. Public access facilities were constructed at several locations, which included boat launches and boardwalks as bird observation platforms.
